Ballot Statement: As the current President of the ASMP board of directors, I am seeking your vote for my second three-year term. I am very proud of the work we have accomplished in the past three years, but there is much more to do. A year ago I drafted the ASMP Strategic Plan, which is our road map to where ASMP is heading.

This past year under my leadership we have reached an all time high with membership in the society. ASMP is being fiscally responsible in its stewardship of the Author’s Coalition Funds expanding our impact in education and advocacy. In a down economy, I strive to expand value to members at every level by leading strategic initiatives including:

  • Google Books Settlement advocacy
  • Orphan Works advocacy
  • Social Media Terms of Service review and best practices
  • Funding for the PLUS Registry
  • Renewed relationship with the US Copyright Office
  • Creation of the Registration Counts Initiative
  • Hands on © Registration Workshops at Chapters
  • Library of Congress award, dpBestflow — web site, book and education outreach
  • New and improved ASMP.ORG web site
  • Use of Social Media sites
  • ASMP e-News

  • Coming soon FAP on all mobile platforms
  • Addition of Video portfolios on Find A Photographer
  • E-mail Promotion for FAP
  • FAPWeb Banner Ad’s on Buyer related Web sites
  • FAP Ad’s in COMMUNICATION ARTS
  • Additional Funding for Promoting FAP to Buyers
  • New ASMP Membership Campaign
  • Professional Design for all ASMP Platforms
  • Professional Communications & PR Firm
  • International Outreach to both Photographer and Buyer Communities
  • Creation of the Motion Video Study Group
  • Updated Copyright Tutorial including using eCO System
  • Revised Licensing Guide
  • Continuing Development of SB3

Some of the initiatives that I continue to work towards:

  • Seamless © registration from within D.A.M. software and digital workflow
  • Awareness of importance of © Registration
  • The awareness of Photographer Attribution in printed materials and as metadata in digital distributed images
  • Advocacy with Social Media and other web sites that strip some or all metadata from image files
  • Advocacy with Social Media sites to improve their Terms of Service
  • Advocacy efforts for revenue streams for photographers from websites that feature photographers’ images and advertising
  • More efficient online licensing options for our members to encourage efficient workflow with business practices
  • Creating awareness of the differences between the amateur and the professional photographer to the buyer community
